Systems administrators design, install, and maintain an organization's computer systems. Your responsibilities include:

  • Installation and Configuration: Configure and update hardware and software, establish user accounts, and oversee backup and recovery tasks.

  • Operational and Technical Security: They implement security controls and comply with organizational security policies and procedures.

  • Networks: They manage local networks (LAN), wide networks (WAN), network segments and the Internet.

  • Hardware and Software: They maintain servers, personal computers, desktop machines, laptops, and mobile devices.

  • Documentation and Labeling: Document and label hardware and cables.

  • Automation: They write scripts and programs to automate tasks.

  • Problem Resolution: Diagnose and solve technical problems.

  • User Management: Establish and manage user accounts.

  • Policy Compliance: Adhere to the organization's policies and procedures.

Specific Components of Systems Administration

Hardware


RAM Memory: Manage DIMM slots on physical servers.



CPU: They monitor the logical and virtual CPUs.



Hard Drives (HDD): Manage the type and size of hard drives.




External Storage (SAN/NAS): Configure and manage external storage.

 


Networks:

Cables: They connect all the components.

 


IP Addresses: Configure IP addresses for interfaces and administration.

 


 Software:

Operating Systems: They install and maintain operating systems such as Linux or  Windows.

Hypervisors: Configure and manage to hypervisors.



Programming and Automation: They write scripts and programs to automate tasks.

Security: They implement operational and technical security measures.
